Making Rainbows!

It's been a month since I found time to blog.  Time does fly!

I've been busy enough... but I have managed a bit more bookbinding work too: -
* * *
A Valentine's Journal, with covers of soft red leather...

There is an embossed heart design on the front cover
...and a fancy stitched back, with hearts in longstitch...
...black cover linings, for a good contrast and white pages of lovely textured paper.
* * *

Some 6"x4" Kraft notebooks, with windows -
these have woodland creatures on their endsheets.
...these have floral paper...
...a couple have African animals...
...and one with bees and daisies.

There are seven different designs and they seem to have gone down well in my shops!

* * *
I also completed the binding of a Photo Album, for a customer:

Peacock Feather Album, with Silk Trim...

...Decorative binding, in French Stitch, with deep teal linen thread...

...The stiff white pages have linen-embossed glassine tissue between them.

* * *
And Finally... On my Binding Table Now:-

A Grey Linen Photo Album, with Rainbow Pages...

Each set of pages is individually stitched to a pleated linen spine, with coloured linen, to match the page colours...

... The Covers are plain grey linen, but they are not attached yet.  The idea is that the purchaser can choose a custom trim for the cover edges - they can have a coloured strip of silk, or a ribbon, in a colour of their choice.  And also, the covers can be lined with coloured paper of their choice (or even patterned paper!).

I'm looking forward to completing this project, with whoever chooses it.

Thanks for Reading!

A Rainbow Wedding Book

I have been working on a commission order, for a Wedding Guest Book.  The customer's wedding has a rainbow theme and she wanted a book that would fit this theme.  She liked the rainbow paper in some of my notebooks, but wanted a white or cream cover.

After some discussion, we came up with a plan.  The book is now finished and this is it:
It's a hard-cover case-bound book (ie. a traditional "hard-back" style), with covers of white linen and silver-grey silk.

Close-up of the silk & linen.

Rainbow pages and a hard cover, with a stiff spine.

Close-up view of the hand-stitched headband (that stripey bit at the top & bottom of the pages).

The end-papers are shiny silver.
It's not exactly paper - more a shimmery thin plastic film, but it works really well.
The back of the end-papers has a matt finish.
Red pages come first - each page has a punched, decorative edge.
Orange and yellow pages...

Turquoise and aqua - and you can see the other colours before & after these pages - there are ten colours in all, with a total of sixty pages.

It's finished and the customer Loves it!
The only thing that I still have to do, is make and print a lino-cut label, with a rainbow and the Happy Couple's names & wedding date.  Work in progress...

Wednesday Worktable February 20th 2013 - Makin' Rainbows

Thought it was high time I posted something. And today is Wednesday, so I took a few pictures of my desk, to show what's going on just now, in my not-as-messy-as-last-Wednesday Studio! (Thursday was Tidy-up Day and it looks so much better, though still some way to go...)
..err... yes, still a bit of a way to go....
but at least you can see the (nicely vacuumed) floor!
* * *

So, I am joining in with Julia's Stamping Ground, to share my studio desk.

This was on my desk when I went up to the studio, with my camera....

It's a book... with Rainbow Pages and special silver touches...

Silver end-sheets - how about this?

A view of one of the pages - this is the first page, in scarlet-red.  There are 10 colours of pages, with pretty punched edges.  The book will be slightly shorter than A4, as the sheets for the pages are A4, with about 2.5cm folded to make the folds to stitch the pages together - also to allow for the pretty punch detail!
A Rainbow of pages!
The covers will have this white linen and silvery silk edging.

An idea of what the book will be like, with its covers.
A bit like this guest book, in white linen and blush-peach silk (only it won't have the same binding).

And...
A pair of little notebooks (about 4"x3"), with bright-coloured stitching...
...and rainbow pages!

I love making rainbows!

Why not go over to Julia's blog, to see what others are working on this week?
