Wednesday Worktable - 27th May 2015 - More Cards and a Book

Hello, thanks for visiting my blog! This is my contribution to WOYWW (What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday), over at JuliaDunnit's Blog. Each Wednesday, Julia invites fellow crafters and bloggers to show a photo or two of their worktables, and explain what they've been doing.

However, this is a Special WOYWW.  It's the Sixth Anniversary of Julia starting this meme. Three Hundred and Twelve Weeks of WOYWW - We're celebrating (a bit):

* * *

Last Wednesday I posted about some cards I had made.  Several people left such kind comments, so first of all, here's the Card-making Desk now:

A very messy desk!  With three newly completed cards (and one just being started). It's covered in inks, punches, paper, stamps (not seen), buttons and bits...

Quick photos of the cards:

A 4" square card, with floral paper.  I stamped it with a stitch pattern stamp and added the ric-rac and buttons, to give a sort-of sewing theme

I like this "Life is a Journey..." stamp.  First effort, using a nice patterned paper, a copy of a vintage atlas map and some butterflies.

This is "Life is a Journey..." card #2.  I have had the bi-planes paper for ages and it just seemed a good match. Another bit of a map and another butterfly.  But I reckon this would be a nice card for a man - what does everyone think?

And then there is my Bookbinding Table:

Two pairs of book covers for Baby Journals (customer gets to choose which ones she wants for her commission book), silk bookcloth for an edge trim, a folded set of pages for the journal... Then there are some of my tools, glue, various sketchbooks and notebooks, my trusty radio... Oh, and in the top right corner there - can you see my fabulous zombie-head pin cushion, from the wonderful fionaT?

And in case you're wondering about the lego - it's a squaring-off jig (much cheaper than buying one, and just as square!)

So, that's my contribution this week.  Thanks for visiting.  Do come back soon, if you'd like to see the finished Baby Journal.

If you'd like to see what everyone else is doing and join the Six Year Celebrations, pop over to Julia's and have a look.  Have a good week, everyone!

  1. Yes, I certainly will be back - it looks just lovely. Such a perfect paper. And I like your little yellow and cream dotted pouch/bag at the back of your lively and creative table! What do you use it for?

    1. Hello Alexa, thanks for visiting! The little pouch is what I carry small sewing or crochet projects in, when I'm out and about and don't want a big bag full of things. No idea what it's doing on my desk, actually... the rest of my crochet and sewing are put away!

  2. You make stunning cards. I am impressed because that is something I'm not good at. Yours are lovely, and I especially like the rick rack. I also will be back, because I want to see that baby book upon completion.

Happy, happy 6th WOYWW anniversary from #1.

    1. Hi Jan, thank you! I have a whole lovely set of '50s retro style papers, including the ones on the floral card and the papers with cherries and cans in the first photo. I used some of them to make pretty notebook sets. They looked great!

  4. Nice cards indeedy. I thought the lego was a DIY stamp positioner, but as good as a square, for sure! Love the pattern for the baby book, a modern take on a classic. I wonder how fast you'll be with the making...

    1. Hi Julia, thank you for the visit! Yes, the lego would make a good stamp positioner (stores idea away for future use...).
As for the baby book, it was completed this afternoon. This evening, I cut and folded pages, then bound the spare covers into another, slightly different journal. They both look good!

  7. Thanks for your visit to my blog earlier. Oh yes Lizzie, please send me a ticket so I can come over to help you organize your desk. (We would probably NOT do that, but instead talk, craft, sip tea and laugh... which is way more important then organizing a desk anyway!) I am curious to see the 'zombie-head pin cushion'... could you make a photo of it next time? Happy woyww, happy 6th anniversary and a hug from Holland! Marit #43

    1. It would be fun, Marit! I'll try to oblige with the zombie. It was made by Fiona, of fionaT. She's fab and makes some really fun things. This is a red version, that's in her shop (mine is grey - she dyes them by hand): https://folksy.com/items/4141770-zombie-head-pincushion-blood-red

    1. Hello Mary Anne, nice to see you here! Lego is so useful.. and of course it's fun to play with. We still have all my son's lego - he's 17 now, but he still plays with it sometimes!
And thanks for the book cover appreciation. Books are finished now - there's a new post about them, if you're interested.
