Wednesday Worktable - 18th February 2015 - Little Leather Journal

This is my contribution to WOYWW (What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday), over at JuliaDunnit's Blog. Each Wednesday, Julia invites fellow crafters and bloggers to show a photo or two of their worktables, and explain what they've been doing.

My desk just now... Its usual messy self!

There, in the middle is my current project.  A little piece of lovely deep chocolate brown leather and a sheet of beautiful hand-marbled paper, by bookbinder and artist, Rhonda Miller.
I plan to make a small, pocket-sized leather journal.

On my small table, a pile of folded pages, made with creamy-coloured squared paper. These will be bound into the leather cover with longstitch.

This is its big brother - an A5 /8" x 6" Journal, lined with a fabulous geometric design paper, by Cambridge Impressions. It also has pages of squared paper (slightly larger squares), and is hand bound in longstitch, with green Austrian linen.

Haven't quite finished the planning of the little journal yet. I think I will go with a wrap-round cover and some kind of interesting fastening.
Once I've finished, I will post it in my blog, so feel free to come back and look!

That's my contribution to the WOYWW Story this week - thanks for reading.

Why not pop over to Julia's Stamping Ground and see what else is going on in the crafting world?

    1. I love that paper too, Eliza. I was in a shop in King's Parade, Cambridge and, there it was! I bought that sheet, plus three others - all very gorgeous. I love having beautiful papers for my projects - and sharing them with those who buy my work!

    1. Me too, Shel... I'm a bit obsessed with it now! It makes me happy, to create beautiful books - and even happier when someone else loves what I've made and I can post it off to some far-flung destination (or closer to home!).

    1. Hi JoJo! Thanks, I also love the papers. Both are artisan-made and just that bit special. I'm hoping the books will appeal to men, as well as women, because there's quite a lot of "pretty" in my shop just now!
The little book is bound now - just finishing touches to do. :-)

    1. Lovely, Ali - I will be so pleased to "see" you back again. The little book is nearing completion, as I was working on it this evening. The binding is done now, but I'm working on finishing touches. I hope to post about it in the next couple of days.

  8. Fabulous journal and I love you long stitching. I have only just tried to make my journal and got into such a muddle with the stitching. But I was so pleased with the end result that I might even give it another go. The papers for your journal inside cover is lovely.

  12. I LOVE squared paper yet never thought about binding a little book with it... thanks for the inspiration, I will remember it now! The dark brown leather of the bigger book matches wonderful with the lime thread... great combination! Thanks for stopping at my blog last week. I'm wayyy late with my visits (but at least all the housekeeping work that I was whining about last week is done, YAY!) Happy belated woyww and a hug from Holland, Marit #39
