Our Favourite Place

Last week was the Half Term holiday and we spent five days away at our Favourite Place, which is in Norfolk.  We booked a family room at the youth hostel, which is converted from the old church hall building and has a lovely family atmosphere.  We drove up on Monday and came home on Friday, feeling that we'd had a good break.

We didn't do a lot.  Obviously, although the weather was unseasonably warm for October, temperatures never got beyond the high teens centigrade, so there was no swimming in the sea, but we did go to the beach every day, for some of the afternoon.  J had a cold, so we decided not to go on a boat trip to see the seals at Blakeney, nor drive to Langham glassworks or the Dinosaur Park or Sea Life Centre, but to just stick around the town and the seashore.

We pottered about the town, looking at shops and a couple of local "fairs" in the village hall. We also had some lovely walks along the beach and even saw seals basking on the sand bank at low tide.

We spent one morning at the hostel, so the boys could have one of their Warhammer battles and I could "do scrapping".  It was so relaxing to be able to just get on with a layout, without having to sort out laundry, field phone calls, or think about other jobs that I should be doing instead.  I just had fun messing about with paper and made a lovely layout as a result.  One afternoon, D asked if I was disappointed at not going on any trips, but I just felt happy to be there at all, just relaxing as a family.  In spite of me & J having colds, we had a great time and I think the fresh air probably helped clear our heads.

We're home now of course, but we can go again - we go there at least once a year! And we took lots of photos, so I now have something else to scrap at the crop on Sunday!

We had a great break and feel re-charged, ready for winter and the busy run-up to Christmas.

Love that photo of the beach huts. It reminds me of childhood holidays spent near Yarmouth.
